BedComm Medical Device Integration

Clinicians rely on patient flowsheets for vital sign measurements from devices. Manual data collection and charting increases the likelihood of errors, negatively impacting a hospital’s ability to successfully treat and discharge patients. These inefficiencies and incidents directly affect a hospital’s margins and raise its liabilities.

Excel’s BedComm™ Medical Device Integration (MDI) platform automates vital sign documentation for clinicians across a hospital. It delivers safe, reliable patient-, location- and device-centric workflows by integrating data from wireless devices and connected medical devices such as patient physiological monitors, ventilators, cardiac output monitors, intra-aortic balloon pumps, neurological monitors, anesthesia machines and infusion pumps to the EMR or clinical information system.

BedComm’s simple plug-and-play technology allows clinicians to connect their medical devices to bedside ports, and through the BedComm platform, data is transmitted to the EMR automatically.

BedComm streamlines clinical workflow so clinicians can spend more time caring for patients and less time transcribing and manually inputting data.

Clinical Workflow Expertise

BedComm provides streamlined clinical workflow for end users across anesthesia/peri-operative, critical care, step-down units, emergency departments and medical surgical floors. Excel’s implementation experts team with hospital and EMR professionals to ensure safe system configuration, testing and deployment. Used by many of the top US hospitals, BedComm integrates with EMR vendors including Epic, MEDITECH, Allscripts and others.

The BedComm MDI platform allows hospital’s to leverage investments in IT infrastructure through support of virtualization technologies. BedComm integrates seamlessly with networked, wireless and mobile devices. The platform is bi-directional supporting ADT, positive patient ID and custom HL7 feeds to multiple systems simultaneously.

Bedcomm Mobile Vitals Capture platform

The additional  BedComm MVC (Mobile Vitals Capture) platform wirelessly delivers vital sign monitor data to the EMR/HIS with secure, customizable and streamlined workflows. Together with Excel’s CarePanel™, vital signs are acquired from vital sign monitors, such as the GE Dinamap/VC100. They are then transmitted live across a hospital’s wireless network to the BedComm server for delivery to the EMR/HIS, reducing potential errors due to manual transcription of data.

  • Uses existing monitors to capture and wirelessly send vitals to patient’s EMR
  • Provides positive Patient ID with patient barcode scanning or patient selection from hospital’s ADT system
  • Ensures accurate vitals sent from patient bedside monitors to the right chart
  • Allows for customized patient assessment data taken and transmitted
